In the food-truck Jack!

Cuisine for the creation of social connections, such is the saying of the cooking workshops offered by the Food Bank of the Gironde. These workshops are like no other, organizes aboard a van equipped with six hotplates, an oven and two sinks. Both at the wheel as well at the griddle, Laure, counsellor of social-economy and solidarity, travels the roads of the region to meet the recipients of donations from the Food Bank. The Gironde is one of only two French departments to have a vehicle which can access an isolated public. In circulation since 2005, the small truck has just celebrated its tenth anniversary in welcoming within its 10m2 nearly 7,000 beneficiaries referred by social welfare, CCAS or university health services. The objective of this surprising rolling kitchenette is to train, whether in the cities or the countryside, a vulnerable public in simple meal preparation. A dozen men and women finds time for a lunch conceived of and prepared by a group. While it is for some a means by which to break their solitude, others discover gastronomy. The most seasoned cooks, in June 2015, participated in the first edition of the unusual contest “The Leader Is You.” The teams assembled and dishes prepared on the truck were judged by the taste leaders of Bordeaux.
